We've heard countless causes of acne, including processed food and hormones. If you are still breaking out, consider these 5 causes you might not have realized are causing those breakouts.
1. Gym
The gym is the perfect environment for bacteria. The machines and surfaces of the gym and touched by hundreds and thousands of people who may or may not wash their hands frequently (eek). Try not to touch your face after touching gym equipment or machines and wash your hands as soon as possible after your workout. You should also follow these tips after your workout session so your skin and body can glow from the inside and out.
2. Hair Products
Hair products, such as shampoo, conditioner, and hair gel contain ingredients (such as panthenol or sulfate) that may clog your pores and lead to acne. The best tip for reducing the likelihood of acne caused by hair products is to save your cleanser for last in the shower. Try to keep hair away from your face, especially when you're experiencing breakouts.
3. Electronics
We know now that cell phones are breeding grounds for bacteria, but keyboards and laptops can also be culprits! Touching your keyboard (when was the last time you cleaned your laptop or keyboard?) and touching your face after can cause those pesky pimples.
4. Showerhead
There are countless metals and chemicals in your tap water that you use to shower, which can be irritating on your skin. You can invest in a shower-head that filters chlorine, metals, bacteria, and pesticides.
5. Air Travel
There is no escape to dry air on the plane. Your skin is dehydrated and build up oil, that causes acne. You can apply a hydrating cream or serum before or on the plane or take it a step further and put on a face mask during your flight!
